Russian forces launched a large-scale strike on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure overnight, targeting energy facilities across the country with hundreds of drones and missiles. Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the attack, carried out amid falling autumn temperatures, amounts to genocide.

“Russian terrorists struck critical civilian infrastructure, particularly energy, across Ukraine with hundreds of drones and missiles. I urge all partners to respond strongly.,” Sybiha wrote on X.

The minister noted that the assault took place on October 10—the anniversary of Russia’s first massive attack on Ukraine’s energy grid in 2022.

“This is a deliberate demonstration that he has not changed his aggressive actions, terrorist methods, and ultimatums in three years, and he continues to reject any meaningful diplomacy and peace efforts,” Sybiha said, referring to Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

He added that depriving people of energy amid falling autumn temperatures constitutes genocide under Article II(c) of the Genocide Convention, which defines it as creating intolerable living conditions with the intent to destroy a national group.

Sybiha emphasized that only strong, united pressure on Moscow can bring results—through economic sanctions, increased military support for Ukraine, and full political isolation.

“Putin must feel that the cost of continuing the war exceeds the cost of stopping it. He must feel that continuing this war endangers his regime.,” Sybiha concluded.

Earlier, in his evening address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy contrasted international peace efforts with Russia’s continued aggression, noting that even Hamas had shown willingness to negotiate with Israel over Gaza, while Vladimir Putin still refused to engage in any dialogue to end the war against Ukraine.
