Germany has deployed Eurofighter jets to Poland just weeks ahead of Russia and Belarus launching their joint military exercises "Zapad-2025," Bild reported on August 4.

“Eurofighters of the German Air Force will begin operating from the military airfield in Mińsk Mazowiecki starting tomorrow for the first time,” a spokesperson for the German Air Force told Bild.

She emphasized that the deployment is “a clear sign of NATO solidarity” and aims to ensure “reliable deterrence and protection of shared airspace.”

According to Bild, five Eurofighter jets from Germany’s 31st Tactical Air Squadron arrived at an airbase east of Warsaw on August 4. Their first operational flights are scheduled for Tuesday, August 5.

The deployment is part of a broader reinforcement effort that began on July 21, with 150 additional personnel from the Boelcke Squadron, command support units, and the Friesland Air Force Security Regiment sent to Poland to support the mission.

Germany’s Defense Ministry confirmed that the deployed unit will maintain rapid reaction forces, known as the Alarmrotte, capable of intercepting potential airspace violations at short notice.

The five Eurofighters will reinforce German forces already stationed in southeastern Poland. From Rzeszów, they are helping to secure NATO airspace using two Patriot air defense systems.

They will also operate alongside other German Eurofighters from the 71st Tactical Air Wing, which have been patrolling northern Poland and the Baltic coastline since April 2025 to counter Russian reconnaissance activity.

Earlier, Germany’s top military commander instructed the Bundeswehr to achieve full combat readiness by 2029.

The directive, titled “Priorities for Strengthening Readiness,” lays out a roadmap for reaching full operational capability, leveraging the additional funding unlocked after the constitutional debt brake was eased in March.
