Poland to Invest $750 Million in Ammunition Production Amid Potential Russian Threat
Poland plans to invest 3 billion zlotys ($750 million) to increase ammunition production, according to a bill published on Monday, aiming to secure supplies in case of a potential threat from Russia.
Since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Poland has led NATO in defense spending relative to the size of its economy, with its 2025 budget allocating 4.7% of GDP to defense.
The bill states that the measure “act aims to create opportunities to provide financing for activities aimed at increasing the capacity for ammunition production,” emphasizing the need for expanded large-caliber production to strengthen the Polish Armed Forces.
The government intends to pass the bill by the fourth quarter, as per its website.
Some NATO officials have indicated that, within five to eight years, the Kremlin may be militarily prepared to threaten NATO countries after rebuilding from the war in Ukraine.
It was previously reported by Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk that Poland has started construction of a line of defensive fortifications called the "East Shield" on the border with Russia.
