Poland Begins Construction of "East Shield" Fortifications on Russian Border
Poland has started construction of a line of defensive fortifications called the "East Shield" on the border with Russia.
This was reported by the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk.
“We want our border to be safe in times of peace and … impassable for the enemy in times of war”, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in May
The “East Shield” will consist of robust defense structures, including anti-tank barriers known as “dragon’s teeth” and extensive trench networks, strategically placed along the 400-kilometer land border shared with Belarus and Russia. According to the government, these fortifications are set to be completed by 2028.
At the end of September, Norway stated considering building a fence along its border with Russia to assist in managing a potential stream of refugees from Russia.
In 2023, Finland started building a fence on its border with Russia to serve as an addition to Finland’s border control measures and enhance preparedness for hybrid security threats, including the possibility of a large-scale migrant influx.
