Norway is considering building a fence along its border with Russia to assist in managing a potential stream of refugees from Russia.

This was reported by Yle citing the Norwegian state broadcaster NRK.

It is noted that the fence is intended to assist in managing a potential influx of refugees from Russia, similar to what occurred in 2015 when 5,000 migrants from the Russian Federation crossed at the sole border point between the two countries.

Norway's Minister of Justice, Emily Enger Mähl, stated that building a fence could be one way to improve the security situation, mentioning Finland as an example.

In 2023, Finland started building a fence on its border with Russia to serve as an addition to Finland’s border control measures and enhance preparedness for hybrid security threats, including the possibility of a large-scale migrant influx.

It remains uncertain whether the fence will span the entire border or only a specific section. The land border between Norway and Russia stretches for 200 kilometers.
