Germany will provide Ukraine with a sixth IRIS-T air defense system and additional Patriot missile systems, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced.

At the 7th Ukrainian Germany Economic Forum on December 11, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed that the systems would be delivered by the end of the year, reported Shmyhal.

Scholz made a surprise visit to Kyiv on December 2, marking his first trip to the Ukrainian capital in over two and a half years. During his visit, Scholz announced that announced that Berlin would deliver €650 million ($684 million) worth of weapons to Ukraine by the end of December, including 2 advanced IRIS-T air defense systems, 10 Leopard 1 tanks, 60 M84 and M80 tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and combat drones.

This aid is part of the broader military support announced by Berlin in October, aiming to bolster Ukraine’s defenses amid Russia’s ongoing aggression.

The total support Germany has provided Ukraine currently amounts to €37 billion (almost $39 billion), the highest among all EU countries.
