Germany to Deliver IRIS-T Air Defense Systems and Leopard Tanks in €650 Million Military Aid Package
Germany will deliver a new military aid package worth $684 million (€650 million) to Ukraine by the end of the year, including 2 advanced IRIS-T air defense systems, 10 Leopard 1 tanks, 60 M84 and M80 tanks, and infantry fighting vehicles, and combat drones, reported German media Die Rheinpfalz on December 2.
In particular, Germany pledged to provide:
2 Iris-T air defense systems
10 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks
60 M84 and M80 infantry fighting vehicles and armored fighting vehicles
6 thousand unguided and 500 guided missiles
The package includes German drones from the Helsing company, with an additional 4,000 UAVs set to be delivered to Ukraine by year-end.
“Winter is approaching, so the package will also include winter equipment, small arms, and heating devices,” the spokesperson said, confirming that the shipment will arrive in December.
This delivery is part of the broader military support announced by Berlin in October, aiming to bolster Ukraine’s defenses amid Russia’s ongoing aggression.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a surprise visit to Kyiv, marking his first trip to the Ukrainian capital in over two and a half years, announcing that Berlin would deliver $684 million (€650 million) worth of weapons to Ukraine by the end of December.
