Olaf Scholz Visits Kyiv for First Time in 2.5 Years to Announce €650 Million Arms Deal
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a surprise visit to Kyiv, marking his first trip to the Ukrainian capital in over two and a half years, reported German Chancellor on his X on December 2.
Upon arriving at the central railway station, Scholz announced that Berlin would deliver $684 million (€650 million) worth of weapons to Ukraine by the end of December.
“I want to state clearly here, on-site, that Germany is Ukraine’s strongest supporter in Europe,” Scholz declared.
He emphasized that Ukraine could rely on Germany, adding, “We say what we do, and we do what we say,” Scholz added.
Scholz described his visit as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine, which he praised for its “heroic resistance to Russia’s relentless aggression for over 1,000 days.”
Earlier, Germany pledged to allocate an additional €65 million for the repair of Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
