Germany has observed indications that the Russian military aims to rebuild its capabilities by 2029, potentially preparing for renewed aggression, including against a NATO member state.

General Christian Freuding, Head of Germany’s Special Task Force on Ukraine at the Ministry of Defense, told journalists in Kyiv.

"We are very clearly aware that what is happening to Ukraine can also happen to Germany's eastern neighbors," Freuding said.

The General explained that Russia is preparing to expand its military strength and increase the size of its armed forces.

"We clearly understand the timeline and see that by 2029—just five years from now—Russia's armed forces aim to rebuild their military capabilities to a level that could enable them to launch new aggression, including against a NATO member state. We are fully aware of this, and awareness is also growing among our population," he stated.

At the same time, Czech intelligence chief Michal Koudelka stated on November 26 that forcing Ukraine into significant concessions to end the war would embolden the Kremlin and signal a dangerous precedent.

Previously, German media reported that Berlin is bracing for a potential war scenario. The plan, known as “Operation Deutschland,” details how Berlin could support the deployment of up to 800,000 NATO troops, including US forces, to Ukraine in response to escalating nuclear threats from Russia.
