Britain and its allies will not be deterred by Russian cyber threats from continuing their support for Ukraine, British Cabinet Office Minister Pat McFadden declared on November 25. He called on NATO to strengthen collaboration to maintain an edge in what he described as "the new AI arms race."

In the latest Western caution regarding Moscow's escalation of cyberattacks against nations supporting Ukraine, Pat McFadden emphasized the need for NATO, businesses, and institutions to "do everything they can to lock their own digital doors." He warned of an increasingly aggressive Russia targeting critical systems.

"We will not join those voices of weakness who want to give Putin a veto over our help for Ukraine," McFadden said without details.

"While no one should underestimate the Russian aggressive and reckless cyber threat to NATO, we will not be intimidated by it and we will never allow it to dictate our decisions or policies. And we will do everything we can to defend our countries against it."

Backed by an initial £8.22 million ($10.3 million) in government funding, the laboratory will unite academic and government experts to evaluate the impact of AI on national security and gain deeper insights into its application by Russia.

"Seventy-five years after its foundation, it is clear we need NATO more than ever," he said.

Previously in October, the Director General of the Security Service (MI5) warned of threats emanating from Russia's GRU . He stated that Russia seeks to generate “sustained mayhem” on British and European streets by resorting to sabotage, arson and other dangerous actions.
