US President Joe Biden condemned Russia’s massive Christmas Day attacks on Ukraine, calling the strikes an attempt to cut off heat and electricity to the Ukrainian people during winter, and vowed to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities in response to the attack, according to the White House on December 25.

Biden emphasized that “the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and safety,” urging the US Department of Defense to increase support for Ukraine.

“In recent months, the United States provided Ukraine with hundreds of air defense missiles, and more are on the way,” Biden stated.

“I have directed the Department of Defense to continue its surge of weapons deliveries to Ukraine, and the United States will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine’s position in its defense against Russian forces.”

The US president added that the Russian strikes were a calculated effort to cripple Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure. “The purpose of this outrageous attack was to cut off the Ukrainian people’s access to heat and electricity during winter and to jeopardize the safety of its grid,” Biden said.

He also pledged unwavering support for Ukraine, with the latest military aid packages focusing on air defense systems to counter Russian missile and drone attacks.

Earlier, Germany unveiled a substantial new military aid package for Ukraine to bolster its defense capabilities, including Leopard tanks, air defense, and drones.
