Ukrainian drone operators from the Hart Brigade struck a Russian tractor that had been repurposed for military use on the Southern Slobozhansky axis, according to combat footage by the 16th Army Corps released on January 8.

The tractor, used by Russian forces to support defensive construction, was fitted with makeshift armor and electronic warfare equipment—making it a legitimate military target, Ukrainian operators said.

“We were flying over enemy positions that day and didn’t see anything interesting at first. Then suddenly we spotted a tractor,” said a UAV operator from the brigade’s Fury unit, callsign “Jack.”

“We flew closer and saw it had a ‘grill’ armor setup and electronic warfare gear installed. It was clear this was a valid military target. It was my first sortie after leave—so the work got going right away,” he added.

According to the brigade, the same drone strike mission also disabled an artillery piece, along with several civilian and cargo vehicles that Russian forces were using to transport personnel and ammunition to frontline positions.

The footage underscores how Russian units increasingly rely on improvised solutions—ranging from civilian vehicles to agricultural equipment—to compensate for mounting battlefield losses.

Earlier, Russian forces appear to have begun equipping horse-mounted units with Starlink satellite terminals and cameras.
