Ukraine’s military intelligence agency has released evidence of cannibalism within Russian forces, based on an intercepted conversation between Russian soldiers, according to a recording obtained by Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) on June 20.

In the recording, a Russian officer recounts how a soldier, previously reported as missing, was in fact killed and eaten by a fellow serviceman in the same unit.

“Cannibalism is yet another grotesque sign of the deep moral and psychological collapse within the Russian army—a force that has lost all basic respect for human life, including their own,” Ukraine’s intelligence service said in a statement.

The intercepted call reveals a grisly exchange between members of the 68th Motorized Rifle Division’s separate reconnaissance battalion, operating near the Kupiansk front in eastern Ukraine.

“Nobody f***ing disappeared,” a commander is heard saying. “‘Brelok’ shot him, and then ate him for two weeks.” The deceased soldier referred to as “Foma” was assumed to be missing until this harrowing revelation surfaced.

The officer goes on to note that the cannibal, known by the call sign “Brelok,” was later found dead himself. “They say it was just a KIA, but he ate his comrade. Something to think about,” a Russian officer added.

Both “Brelok” and “Foma” served in the 52nd Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of the 68th Motorized Rifle Division, which is currently operating around the villages of Zapadne and Lyman Pershyi in the Kupiansk sector.

Earlier, reports emerged that Russian soldiers, blockaded in the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant, reportedly ate stray dog meat and even parts of their fallen comrades.
