Iran Unveils Shahed-107 Attack Drone With 1,500 km Range, Likely Already Supplied to Russia

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has unveiled a new long-range loitering munition known as the Shahed-107, Iranian media outlet Mehr reported on June 16.
While no official technical specifications were disclosed, the drone’s stated range reportedly reaches up to 1,500 kilometers.
Images released by Iranian state sources show the Shahed-107 equipped with a turboprop engine, cruciform tail fins, and a rectangular wing with visible control surfaces—likely ailerons. The cylindrical fuselage features a pointed nose and what appears to be a pitot tube at the front for measuring airspeed.
The method of launch remains unspecified. However, based on the drone’s layout, analysts suggest it could be launched from a rail using a solid-fuel booster, or possibly from a runway with the aid of a detachable wheeled trolley.

Although this is the first time images of the Shahed-107 have been made public, the model was previously mentioned in open-source reporting. In January 2024, Sky News cited sources indicating that several Shahed-107 units may have already been transferred to Russia as part of a broader agreement between Tehran and Moscow.
At the time, the drone was described as having a fuselage approximately 2.5 meters long and a wingspan of up to 3 meters—dimensions that visually match the drone shown in current images. The estimated range was also reported at up to 1,500 kilometers.
Earlier, Ukraine’s intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov revealed that Russia and North Korea had agreed to set up production of Shahed-type drones on North Korean territory. He warned the move could significantly alter the military balance with South Korea.
