North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has conducted an inspection of several defense production facilities, praising the significant increase in ammunition output and highlighting the strategic role of the arms industry in enhancing the country’s military capabilities.

According to North Korean state media KCNA on May 7, Kim visited artillery and equipment manufacturing plants, where he noted that shell production had increased to “four times the average annual level.” He described this development as a key step in strengthening the “basic combat capabilities” of North Korea’s armed forces.

The announcement comes amid ongoing reports that North Korea has been supplying Russia with large volumes of military equipment. North Korean lawmakers previously stated that the country had delivered “missiles and shells worth billions of dollars” to Russia for use in the war against Ukraine.

Additionally, up to 15,000 North Korean military personnel have reportedly been deployed to support Russian operations, particularly in the western part of Russia’s Kursk region.

This cooperation underscores the growing military and political alignment between Moscow and Pyongyang, both of which remain under extensive international sanctions.

Earlier, North Korea launched mass production of the KN-25 long-range artillery system—a hybrid between a multiple launch rocket system and a tactical ballistic missile.

First unveiled in 2019, the 600mm weapon can strike targets up to 380 km away and is considered capable of carrying tactical nuclear warheads. Kim Jong-un personally inspected the production line, highlighting its mobility, precision, and role in bolstering the country’s strike capabilities.
