The Kremlin has stated that the trilateral negotiation process regarding the settlement of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine is currently on pause.

However, Russian officials noted that they continue to exchange information with the United States. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov shared these updates during a briefing reported by Interfax on April 6.

Peskov confirmed that the negotiations involving the three countries are suspended for the time being. He mentioned that the US has other priorities which makes it difficult to organize meetings in a trilateral format at this moment.

Despite the pause, the Kremlin spokesperson noted that Ukrainian officials continue their dialogue with American representatives. He added that Russia is also maintaining its own channels to continue the exchange of information with the United States.

When asked if a potential visit to Kyiv by US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner could revive the talks, Peskov said the Kremlin does not have confirmed information about such a trip. He stated, "We do not know for certain that it is being planned."

Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Office of the President, previously indicated that an American delegation might arrive in Kyiv after Easter. This follows an invitation from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the American negotiating team to visit the capital.

On April 1, 2026, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Senator Lindsey Graham, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Zelenskyy described the discussions as positive, and the participants agreed to strengthen security guarantees for Ukraine. Consequently, the President instructed his team to update the relevant security documents following these diplomatic efforts.
