Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia’s so-called “Easter truce” has ended and that Russian forces will “continue carrying out combat missions,” according to Russian state news agency TASS on April 24.

Peskov made the statement following a deadly overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv that left at least eight people dead, including two children.

At least 90 others were injured, and 31 were hospitalized — five of them children. Rescue operations are still underway, with some victims reportedly trapped beneath the rubble.

Peskov claimed Russian troops would “continue striking military and quasi-military targets,” in line with objectives set by Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

The Kremlin also accused Ukraine of allegedly violating the truce multiple times — a claim widely seen as propaganda intended to deflect blame.

Earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed a ceasefire from long-range missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure for at least 30 days, with the option to extend it.

In response, Putin said the matter required further “clarification,” falsely alleging that Ukrainian forces were using civilian buildings for military purposes.

Earlier, at least nine people were killed and 42 others injured when a Russian suicide drone struck a bus carrying workers in the city of Marhanets, located in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region.

The targeted bus was transporting employees to their workplace when the drone hit.
