Following Russia’s massive overnight attack on Ukraine, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that “pressure should be directed at Moscow, not Kyiv.” The attack involved cruise missiles, drones, and ballistic weapons.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the statement on April 24.

“Yesterday’s Russian maximalist demands for Ukraine to withdraw from its regions, combined with these brutal strikes, show that Russia, not Ukraine, is the obstacle to peace. Moscow, not Kyiv, is where pressure should be applied,” Sybiha wrote.

Ukraine’s capital endured a “particularly horrible and loud night.” As of this morning, at least nine civilians are confirmed dead and over 70 injured, including six children. There are also civilian casualties reported in other cities across the country.

“Putin demonstrates through his actions, not words, that he does not respect any peace efforts and only wants to continue the war. Weakness and concessions will not stop his terror and aggression. Only strength and pressure will,” Sybiha concluded.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov responded to Russia’s massive overnight assault on Ukraine, calling it another strike on peaceful cities and the homes of Ukrainian civilians.

“These attacks are yet another confirmation that Russia is not seeking peace—it continues to kill Ukrainians,” Umerov wrote on his official Telegram channel.

The Minister called on strong response from the international partners, emphasizing that Ukraine urgently needs additional air defense systems to protect against Russian terror.

In an interview released on April 23, Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the war against Ukraine could end “immediately” if Ukrainian troops withdraw from four regions that Russia has included in its constitution.
