Zelenskyy Calls for Immediate and Unconditional Ceasefire to Protect Civilians

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is ready for an immediate ceasefire, particularly to protect civilian infrastructure, and emphasized that Kyiv remains open to any diplomatic format that could lead to peace on April 23.
"Ukraine insists on a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire," he said. Zelenskyy underscored that such a step is only achievable if Russia agrees to stop its attacks and killings.
The President highlighted that over the Easter period, Ukraine witnessed a notable decrease in hostilities and a pause in air raid alerts. He noted Kyiv’s proposal to extend that calm for at least 30 days – aiming for a broader, sustained ceasefire.
"Our top priority must be saving lives – a goal shared with our international partners," Zelenskyy emphasised. "Ukraine does not exclude any diplomatic pathway that could bring about a ceasefire and lasting peace. Ending the killing is our foremost objective."
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance stated that the United States is ready to withdraw from its mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine if the current diplomatic initiative fails to elicit a constructive response.
