Trump’s New Peace Plan Envisions Russia-Ukraine Truce With International Oversight, NY Post Reports

The president of the US, Donald Trump, allegedly proposed a peace plan that includes the possibility of monitoring a ceasefire through a joint commission composed of representatives from Ukraine, Russia, and a non-NATO country, the New York Post reported on April 22, citing an official close to Trump.
According to a Trump administration official, the agreement could also involve the deployment of European forces to Ukraine if a ceasefire is reached.
“The hard part is what does a security force look like — we’re calling that a ‘resiliency force, '” the official said. “The resiliency force is part of the security guarantees that the Ukrainians want and we hope they get.”

It was noted that the creation of a separate peacekeeping force to oversee any ceasefire is under consideration. This would take the form of a “joint commission” made up of Russians, Ukrainians, and representatives from a third, non-NATO country, tasked with monitoring the front lines to ensure both sides comply with the truce.
The official added that the United States could also play a role, not through deploying troops, but by serving as a financial backer alongside a third-party country.
On April 21 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine’s top priority during upcoming diplomatic meetings in London on April 23 will be securing an “unconditional ceasefire” with Russia, calling it the essential first step toward lasting peace.
