Kyiv Denounces Ukrainian-Born US Lawmaker Victoria Spartz for Suggesting Territorial Concessions to Russia

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry responded on April 7 to comments made by Ukrainian-born US lawmaker Victoria Spartz, who suggested that Kyiv should cede territory to Russia and that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should resign.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Heorhii Tykhyi, wrote: “Unlike Victoria, all of our land has always been and will always remain Ukrainian.”

In an interview with The Telegraph published on April 7, Spartz argued that Ukraine is not in a position to demand the return of all its occupied territories.
“I just don’t see how they [Ukraine] can be positioned to demand to keep the land. If they would be winning the war, that will be very different,” she said.
The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada , Ruslan Stefanchuk, accused Spartz of repeating Kremlin talking points.
“One, born in Kyiv, became a representative of Putin. Another, from Chernihiv region, discusses the 'expediency' of giving up Ukrainian territories, calling the Ukrainian people a faceless 'they, '” Stefanchuk said.
The remark referencing Kyiv-born Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, comes after he was part of the Russian negotiation team in Saudi Arabia on February 18.
On March 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined key issues that will not be subject to negotiation with Russia in any future peace talks, reiterating Kyiv’s stance on Russian-occupied territories, stressing that these areas remain temporarily occupied and will never be recognized as Russian.
Ukraine has repeatedly emphasized that any talks with Russia must respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and include security guarantees in line with its path toward European integration.
