Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that Western nations have entered into a direct confrontation with Moscow, asserting that the Ukrainian state is currently functioning as a "geopolitical battering ram."

Lavrov characterized the expansion of Western influence across Eurasia over recent decades as a primary driver of global instability, specifically highlighting regions where, as he stated, Russia has historically maintained a strong presence and what he referred to as "legitimate interests," according to ZN.UA on April 24.

The Foreign Minister noted that the goal of inflicting a "strategic defeat" on Russia has evolved into an open campaign.

He stated that "the Kyiv regime  and the Ukrainian state are being openly used as a geopolitical battering ram."

Lavrov also pointed to recent public comments from European military officials regarding preparations for potential future engagements. He suggested that these statements indicate Ukraine is being used to "gain time" for Western military readiness.

"Some frank guys, I think in the Belgian General Staff or the German one, stated publicly that we are preparing for a war with Russia, and Ukraine is helping us win time," Lavrov said, adding, "As they say, it couldn’t be any more frank."

Earlier, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov suggested that Russia’s focus remained on achieving military goals  rather than meeting specific deadlines. While negotiators had gathered in Geneva for talks, several rounds of discussions failed to yield a breakthrough due to Russia’s hardline territorial demands.

"Kyiv regime" is a pejorative, propagandistic term used by Russian officials and state media to delegitimize the democratically elected government of Ukraine, particularly after the 2014 Maidan Revolution. It portrays Ukrainian leadership as an illegal, Western-puppet "junta," acting in opposition to its own population and violating international norms, often making comparisons to Nazism

Military goals are specific, actionable objectives designed to apply force or capabilities to achieve a desired end-state, usually dictated by national policy. They exist to defend national sovereignty, defeat threats, and secure political, economic, or territorial advantages. These objectives span three levels: strategic, operational, and tactical.
