Lithuania is closing its airspace along the border with Belarus amid growing drone threats, Lithuanian MOD stated in a post on X on August 21.
Temporary no-fly zones have been established to protect civilians and ensure airspace security.

The restrictions will remain in effect until October 1 and could be extended if the risks continue, MOD claims.

Previously, it was reported that Lithuania will strengthen protection of its state border ahead of the joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises “Zapad-2025,” the country’s State Border Guard Service (VSAT) announced, according to LRT.
“All the measures that are planned carry a certain level of secrecy. This is not public information. I can only assure you that our service, as well as other services of the Ministry of the Interior, are ready,” Liubajevas stated.
Lithuanian officials had also urged NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to take immediate action to bolster Lithuania’s air defense capabilities after multiple Russian drones entered the country’s airspace, the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs said in a post on X.
