Lithuanian Government Visits Kyiv and Promises Support Until Ukraine’s Victory
Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas and his entire cabinet arrived in Kyiv, according to statements from Paluckas and Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys on December 20.
“The entire Lithuanian government is in Ukraine today to send a clear message—we will stand with Ukraine until victory,” Budrys stated on social media.
He also noted that their morning in Kyiv began with a stark reminder of the war’s brutality—a Russian missile attack targeting the city.
For Prime Minister Paluckas, this marked his first official visit to Kyiv since assuming office. “It is both an honor and a privilege to be in Kyiv,” he said.
At Kyiv’s Wall of Remembrance, Paluckas and his Cabinet paid tribute to the fallen heroes of Ukraine. “At Kyiv’s Wall of Remembrance, with my Cabinet of Ministers, I paid my respects to the fallen heroes of Ukraine, men and women who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their country, and by that – for the freedom of Europe,” he wrote.
According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the intergovernmental consultations are expected to discuss:
Defense and security of Europe;
Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO;
Recovery program;
Further strengthening of sanctions against Russia;
The issue of confiscation of Russian frozen assets;
Economic and trade cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania.
“We look forward to a fruitful and constructive dialog,” wrote the Ukrainian PM regarding upcoming negotiations.
During the JEF (Joint Expeditionary Force) Leaders’ Summit in Tallinn, 12 European nations, with Lithuania among them reached an agreement to disrupt and deter Russia’s shadow fleet activity.
