Macron: France Open to Placing Nuclear Weapons in Europe to Replace U.S. Arsenal

France is open to deploying its nuclear weapons on allied territory to replace U.S. nuclear arms in Europe, according to French President Emmanuel Macron in an interview with Le Figaro on March 2.
Macron stated that he is open to deepening cooperation with European partners on nuclear deterrence.
“The President of the Republic makes the decision to use nuclear weapons in a fully sovereign and always confidential manner,” he said.
“Those who wish to deepen dialogue with us will, if necessary, be able to participate in deterrence force exercises. These exchanges will contribute to the development of a genuine strategic culture among Europeans.”
The French military may consider deploying nuclear weapons in allied countries in coordination with their armed forces. The goal would be to gradually replace the United States, which currently maintains nuclear warheads in Europe.
However, Macron reassures, “There is no need to fear this issue,” while emphasizing, “This does not change our doctrine.”
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that denuclearization could be a key initiative for global security, adding that China and Russia could also join the process.
Previously on February 28, North Korea tested a new cruise missile capable of carrying a nuclear charge, referring to it as a “strategic” weapon, according to state media reports cited by South Korea’s Yonhap.
