A majority of Germans back the deployment of international peacekeeping forces to Ukraine in case of a ceasefire, but far fewer support German soldiers participating in such a mission, according to a YouGov survey, reported Deutsche Welle on January 2.

56% of respondents in Germany favor sending peacekeepers to Ukraine to help maintain stability following a potential ceasefire in the war waged by Russia.

However, only 23% supported the involvement of Bundeswehr troops in the mission, with 33% opposing Germany’s participation.

Meanwhile, 19% of those surveyed opposed the deployment of any peacekeeping forces to Ukraine, and 25% were undecided.

The online survey was conducted from December 20 to 23, with 2,194 participants from across Germany.

Earlier, a Ukrainian survey showed that more than 80% of Ukrainians would support joining the European Union and NATO if referendums were held in the near future.
