NATO has now taken over the coordination of Western military aid to Ukraine, a role previously managed by the United States, Reuters reports on December 17.

According to Reuters citing an unnamed source, NATO's mission headquarters for Ukraine, called “NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine” (NSATU), is now fully operational.

The headquarters is located at the US military facility in Wiesbaden, Germany. The mission is designed to streamline military aid and training efforts by improving coordination among NATO member states.

Reuters highlights that NATO's involvement may have limited long-term impact since the US, as the dominant force in the alliance and the largest supplier of weapons to Ukraine, could reduce its support depending on political changes, particularly when Donald Trump returns to office.

Previously, Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov stated at a Defense Ministry meeting that the department must be prepared for "any developments, including potential military conflict with NATO in Europe within the next decade."
