Two senior Republican senators have introduced a new legislative initiative aimed at streamlining military aid to Ukraine through greater international burden-sharing, The Wall Street Journal reports on July 30.

The proposed PEACE Act, introduced by Senators Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Jim Risch (R-Idaho), would establish a special fund under the US Treasury Department, with annual contributions from allies such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and others. The fund is expected to collect between $5 billion and $8 billion each year.

These contributions would enable the Pentagon to sign contracts with US defense contractors to both replenish American stockpiles and deliver weapons to Ukraine, without compromising US military readiness.

“This is the fastest way to arm Ukraine and reduce the threat from Russia to both the United States and NATO,” said Wicker, who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee.

According to WSJ, the White House backs the initiative, and there are efforts to incorporate the PEACE Act into this year’s National Defense Authorization Act.

Earlier, it was reported that Republican Senator Lindsey Graham dismissed Kremlin claims that Russia is now “immune” to Western sanctions, stating that Donald Trump is preparing new measures that could dramatically reshape the global response to Russia’s wartime economy.
