North Korea is building its first nuclear-powered submarine equipped with strategic guided missiles.
This was reported by North Korea’s state news agency KCNA on December 25.

According to the report, the submarine will have a displacement of about 8,700 tons and will be fitted with new “secret underwater weapons.” No further technical details or timelines for completion were disclosed.
Commenting on the project, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said Pyongyang must “make enemies understand that they will inevitably pay for encroaching on its strategic sovereignty and security.” He added that any attempt to pursue a “military option” would be met with “merciless retaliatory strikes.”

Additionally, Kim Jong Un oversaw a test launch of a long-range surface-to-air missile on December 24, at a test site near the country’s eastern coast.
According to KCNA, the test was conducted to verify strategic technologies linked to the development of a new type of high-altitude missile. During the launch, the missile successfully struck aerial targets at a range of up to 200 kilometers.
KCNA added the test was part of Pyongyang’s broader efforts to advance its air defense capabilities.
Earlier, North Korea fired a ballistic missile, sending it toward waters off its eastern coast, Reuters reported, citing statements from South Korea and Japan.
The launch came after a succession of missile tests over the previous two weeks and followed a renewed offer of bilateral talks from US President Donald Trump to Pyongyang.
