North Korea launched approximately 10 artillery shells this week, using its multiple rocket launcher system, which is capable of striking Seoul and nearby areas in South Korea.

This was reported by Yonhap on December 10, citing South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

“The military detected around 10 artillery rockets fired towards the northern part of the Yellow Sea around 3 p.m. on Tuesday,” stated the Joint Chiefs of Staff, adding that a thorough analysis of the launch is ongoing.

The rockets are believed to have been fired from the 240mm multiple rocket launcher, which places Seoul and nearby regions within striking range.

According to Yonhap, military spokesperson noted that the artillery fire seemed to be part of North Korea's customary winter exercises, which typically begin in December.

“Our forces are closely observing North Korea's actions, maintaining a strong South Korea-US defense stance, and ensuring we have the readiness to decisively respond to any provocation,” the JCS added.

A month ago, North Korea carried out a ballistic missile launch, aiming the missile toward the sea off its eastern coastline. This missile test came after a series of similar launches in the preceding two weeks and followed US President Donald Trump's renewed offer for bilateral talks with Pyongyang.

The South Korean military stated that the missile, believed to be a short-range ballistic missile, was launched from a location in North Korea’s northwest, near the border with China. The missile traveled an estimated distance of 700 kilometers (435 miles) before falling into the sea.

Earlier, South Korea's Defense Intelligence Agency assessed that North Korea is prepared to carry out its seventh nuclear test at any time, should Kim Jong Un give the order.
