North Korean Defectors Urge Other Soldiers to Desert, Delivering Leaflets to Ukrainian Embassy for Redistribution
A group of defectors from North Korea has delivered leaflets to the Ukrainian embassy in Seoul, urging North Korean soldiers to desert the battlefield. They also provided an audio file with a similar message, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The group, called the "Defectors' Propaganda Corps," is made up of former North Korean soldiers and relatives of those who served in the North Korean military. They handed over the leaflets to be distributed among North Korean troops, containing calls for desertion and instructions on how to carry it out.
The group's leader, Jang Se-yul, announced plans to hand over additional leaflets to Ukrainian soldiers in Brussels. He also intends to send a letter to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, urging him to "use psychological warfare against North Korean soldiers." Jang believes that "the Ukrainian military could secure mass surrender and defection among North Korean soldiers if proactive psychological warfare is mobilized."
Earlier, the South China Morning Post reported that North Korean defectors are seeking to be sent to Ukraine to launch a psychological warfare campaign on the frontlines.
The Ukrainian government has not yet issued an official comment on these reports.
As previously reported, Russia assembled a group of 50,000 troops, including North Korean units, in the Kursk region for a planned offensive against Ukrainian positions. North Korean soldiers have been training alongside Russian forces in the region, with an attack involving these units expected in the coming days.
