Russia has assembled 50,000 troops, including North Korean soldiers, in the Kursk region in preparation for a new offensive, according to American and Ukrainian officials cited by The New York Times. This force is reportedly gearing up for action against areas under Ukrainian control.

The recent US intelligence assessment indicates that Moscow has amassed these troops without drawing forces away from eastern Ukraine, a move that allows it to exert pressure on multiple fronts. According to Ukrainian officials, an attack involving North Korean troops could occur in the coming days, with North Korean soldiers currently training alongside Russian forces in western Kursk.

American sources report that Russian commanders are training North Korean troops in artillery operations, basic infantry tactics, and trench-clearing maneuvers. Ukrainian sources indicate that North Korean forces have been divided into assault and support units, ready to play active roles in potential combat operations.

US and Ukrainian officials believe that despite this buildup, Russian and North Korean forces are likely to face significant losses, comparable to those seen by Russian forces in eastern Ukraine. American estimates suggest Russia is losing up to 1,200 soldiers daily across different fronts.

According to South Korean intelligence, North Korea has dispatched approximately 12,000 troops to support Russia’s operations, suggesting a significant contribution to Moscow’s military efforts.
