North Korean troops in the Kursk region sustained 1,000 casualties, both dead and wounded, in the past week alone, according to US estimates.
This was reported by Reuters, citing White House spokesperson John Kirby on December 27.
“It is clear that Russian and North Korean military leaders are treating these troops as expendable and ordering them on hopeless assaults against Ukrainian defenses,” Kirby stated, calling the North Korean troops' offensive “massed, dismounted assaults.”
Kirby noted that US President Joe Biden is expected to approve a new security assistance package for Ukraine in the coming days.
On December 25, the White House reported that Biden condemned Russia's large-scale Christmas Day assaults on Ukraine, describing them as an effort to deprive Ukrainians of heat and electricity during the winter. He pledged to strengthen Ukraine's air defense systems in response to the attacks.
Previously, on December 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that losses among North Korean troops deployed to support Russian forces in the Kursk region have exceeded 3,000, including both killed and injured.
