In October, Russian forces significantly ramped up their use of guided aerial bombs on Ukrainian territory, dropping over 5,000 such bombs.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported this increase in aerial strikes on November 4, noting that the number of attacks involving guided aerial bombs (KABs) on Ukrainian military positions and frontline cities sharply intensified.

October saw the highest number of GABs dropped this year, with 5,328 bombs, marking the peak since the start of 2025.

Overall, by the end of October, Russian forces had dropped nearly 40,000 aerial bombs in total, matching the entire amount dropped throughout 2024.

Additionally, for the first time on October 24, Russian forces targeted civilian infrastructure in the Odesa region with guided aerial bombs during a daytime air raid.

Initial monitoring indicated that several munitions were launched towards the coastline area from Pivdennyi to Chornomorsk and in the direction of Ochakiv. Open-source tracking reports confirmed at least four KABs were deployed during the alert.

Local reports cited claims from a regional monitoring channel suggesting that two of the bombs may have been long-range UMPB-5 glide bombs. This assessment has yet to be officially confirmed by the Ukrainian military at the time of publication.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine is working on the development of AI-driven drone interceptors to counter Russian guided bombs, with collaboration from both Ukrainian and European companies on the technology.
