First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska and US First Lady Melania Trump discussed the protection of children during their meeting in New York, according to the President’s Office on September 25.
Zelenska thanked Melania Trump for her support of Ukraine, emphasizing in particular her attention to children who have become victims of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine..
She also expressed special gratitude for the letter addressed to Russia’s leadership, calling for peace for the sake of children.
During the conversation, the two first ladies underlined the importance of safeguarding shared values—above all, children and their childhood.
“I believe in the power of soft influence, in humanity, compassion, and the ability to change reality for the better. I am confident that through joint efforts we can help all children who need it,” Zelenska said.
The First Lady of Ukraine thanked Melania Trump for the meeting and voiced hope for continued cooperation to protect children, both in Ukraine and worldwide.
Earlier, First Lady Olena Zelenska urged international partners to ensure that Russia’s abduction of Ukrainian children is never reduced to “mere statistics,” emphasizing the scale of Moscow’s crimes during a September 23 meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children in New York, held on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.
