Poland Begins Anti-Drone Installation on Belarus Border to Counter Hybrid Threats

The first components of a system aimed at countering hostile drones have been installed along Poland’s border with Belarus, with the system set to become operational in January next year.
The announcement was made by Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński during a visit to the village of Ozierany in the Podlaskie Voivodeship in northeastern Poland, which he attended alongside Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The officials met with border guards, military personnel, and police officers stationed along the Polish-Belarusian border, according to Ukrinform on December 23.
Kierwiński said that five large surveillance towers have been constructed along the border in recent months.
“This tower [in Ozierany] is special because it has the first cluster of the drone countermeasure system installed on it, which will protect the Polish border. This cluster will be put into operation as early as January,” Kierwiński said.

He added that over the past two years, Tusk’s government has allocated more than $500 million to reinforce security along the border with Belarus.
According to the interior minister, next year the Border Guard alone will receive nearly $700 million under the European SAFE program.
Prime Minister Tusk also expressed his gratitude to the border guards, police officers, and soldiers, noting that more than 6,000 personnel are currently deployed to secure the Polish-Belarusian border.
Earlier, it was reported that Poland is prepared to hand over its MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine as part of a technology exchange, Polish President Karol Nawrocki said.
Nawrocki noted that the move aligns with Poland’s existing policy and said the transfer would proceed once the remaining formal procedures are completed.
