Polish FM Confirms Poland Will Finance Czech Ammunition Purchase for Ukraine Despite Delays
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, promised that in the future, Poland will start financing the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine outside the EU.
This was stated by Sikorski in an interview with "European Pravda".
Sikorski was asked about media reports indicating that Poland has yet to finance the Czech-led efforts to purchase artillery shells for Ukraine, despite having made a promise. The Minister confirmed this fact and explained that it is due to formal obstacles.
"There is a political decision to contribute, if memory serves, 50 million this year and another 50 million next year, and there are some technical and administrative and legal issues to do with government agency for strategic reserves. On this issue, the Foreign Ministry has done what is up to us. I hope my colleagues from other ministries will also make it happen. It will happen," commented Sikorski.
In February 2024, the Czech initiative was announced to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with 50,000 to 100,000 large-caliber shells monthly. Weapons were sourced from around the world, including the EU countries and beyond.
