Putin Aide Denies Agreement to Meet Zelenskyy During Anchorage Talks

Russian leader Vladimir Putin did not agree to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, nor was a three-way summit with US President Donald Trump planned, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, Russian media Ria Novosti reported on September 1.
Ushakov added that the Ukrainian war was discussed informally during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin. He also noted that Russia and the US reached “many mutual understandings” during talks in Anchorage, Alaska.

“The visits by Witkoff laid the groundwork for the conversation between Presidents Putin and Trump in Alaska,” Ushakov said, adding that the two leaders agreed on further steps following those discussions. Ushakov also confirmed that the idea of elevating delegation levels for Russia and Ukraine was raised at the Anchorage summit.
Speaking on the sidelines of the SCO meeting, Putin reportedly discussed the outcomes of his talks with Trump with several international counterparts.
Previously, it was reported that Vyacheslav Volodin, chairman of Russia’s State Duma and a close ally of Vladimir Putin, would lead a parliamentary delegation to North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang.
Earlier, US Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg stated that Russia’s latest mass aerial attack poses a threat to ongoing American efforts to achieve peace.
