Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a telephone conversation to mark the 80th anniversary of Russia’s “Victory Day.”
According to the Kremlin’s official statement, the call took place on May 5, during which Putin extended his congratulations to Netanyahu and wished health and well-being to veterans living in Israel.
“The determination of the two countries to defend the truth about the events of World War II, to counter attempts to revise its results and falsify history was noted,” the statement said.
The statement emphasized the decisive contribution of the Red Army and the entire Soviet people to the defeat of Nazism.
“The memory of the war heroes, those who gave their lives for the sake of Victory, is sacredly honored both in Russia and in Israel, where May 9 is also a national holiday,” noted the Kremlin.
The leaders stressed the importance of preserving the memory of those who fought and died in the war, highlighting that their contributions are honored in both Russia and Israel.
In addition, Putin and Netanyahu addressed various aspects of the situation in the Middle East. The conversation also covered current issues related to bilateral relations between Russia and Israel, underscoring ongoing diplomatic ties.
In related news, Ukraine is set to receive two additional Patriot air defense systems this summer, one system will be transferred from Israel following refurbishment, while the second may come from either Germany or Greece.
