Russia Deploys New Time-Bomb Shahed Drone Munitions to Maximize Deadliness

Russian Shahed-type drone struck a facility in Kharkiv Region and released multiple fragmentation warheads that began exploding one after another between two and six hours after being dropped, with the final submunition detonating 20 hours later, says Facebook post by the Interregional Center for Humanitarian Demining and Rapid Response, cited by RBC-Ukraine on July 4.
During a nighttime Russian Shahed-136 drone attack on a facility in Kharkiv region, fragmentation submunitions that began self-detonating hours after impact created a deadly, time-sensitive hazard, complicating work by the Interregional Center for Humanitarian Demining and Rapid Response.
Demining specialists noted that the delayed auto-detonations severely hampered clearance operations, forcing teams to maintain extended cordons and pause approaches until each device had either exploded or been safely neutralized.

To locate the submunitions, sappers deployed unmanned aerial vehicles for aerial reconnaissance. During one sweep, operators identified an unexploded munition which was subsequently destroyed in a controlled detonation by explosive-ordnance disposal teams.
Civilians are urged to treat any unfamiliar object with extreme caution.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha revealed that investigators found a Chinese-manufactured component in the wreckage of a Russian-Iranian Shahed-136/Geran-2 drone that struck Kyiv on July 4.
The finding came mere hours after a Russian missile caused minor damage to the Chinese Consulate General in Odesa, underscoring the tangled web of international suppliers fueling the war.
