Russian forces have stepped up combat operations in the Serebrianskyi Forest area of Luhansk region, but have made no territorial gains.

This was reported by the Deputy Commander of the “Shkval” Rapid Response Border Unit Oleksandr Kyrylin during a broadcast on My-Ukraine on May 23.

According to Kyrylin, Russian troops have increased activity along the front line, yet the contact line remains unchanged due to the resilience of Ukrainian defenders.

"Both Ukrainian and Russian forces continue to engage heavily with artillery, aerial munitions, and FPV drones. Reconnaissance is ongoing on both the front lines and logistics routes," Kyrylin stated.

He added that Ukrainian forces are holding their positions, and repeated Russian attempts to breach or weaken the defense have failed.

Earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin had announced the establishment of a so-called “security buffer zone” along the border with Ukraine, claiming that Russian Armed Forces have already begun implementing the initiative.

According to Putin, the zone will span Russia’s Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod regions. However, the specific military or administrative measures associated with this buffer zone remain undefined.
