Russia Launches 300 Drones, 30 Missiles in Massive Overnight Attack on Ukraine

More than 300 attack drones and at least 30 missiles were launched against Ukraine overnight on July 19 in one of the most extensive coordinated Russian assaults to date, affecting over ten regions and causing multiple casualties and significant damage, as was reported by the government officials and local resident on the same day.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s official statement, Ukrainian air defense units across various branches engaged incoming threats throughout the night. “The destruction of aerial targets continues—some drones are still in the sky,” he noted. Rescue efforts are ongoing in the aftermath of the strikes.
The attacks targeted the Donetsk, Kirovohrad, Dnipro, Sumy, Kherson, Volyn, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Zhytomyr regions. In Sumy region, critical infrastructure was hit, leaving thousands of households without power.
Odesa sustained a direct hit on a residential building, where the fire engulfed the top four floors of a nine-story structure. Five individuals were rescued, but one woman, initially pulled from the fire alive, later succumbed to her injuries.
Six people were injured in the strike, including a child. Emergency crews, police psychologists, and volunteers responded on-site and also evacuated pets from affected apartments.

Zelenskyy emphasized the urgency of Western military cooperation in countering such threats: “Joint weapons production, investment in drone manufacturing—including interceptors—and provision of air defense systems and missiles, as well as enabling their production in Ukraine, is what saves lives. Ukraine needs this now.”
Earlier, it was reported that a drone impacted a nine‑storey residential building in Odesa, igniting fires on the 7th through 9th floors. Fire crews extinguished the blaze, destroyed six apartments and partially damaged 36 more, while rescuing residents.
