A T-90MS main battle tank that was displayed earlier this year at the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi has been redeployed to the frontline in Ukraine.

According to Defence Blog on September 14, the vehicle had been painted in desert camouflage for the exhibition but was returned to Russia, repainted in standard military green, and handed over to Russian forces. The Russian manufacturer UralVagonZavod confirmed the transfer.

“The vehicle we presented abroad for the first time was modified based on extensive experience from the special military operation ,” the company stated.

“It was delivered to our troops in nearly the same configuration as it was shown at the exhibition in the UAE. The only change was the color: from ‘exhibition’ desert camouflage to standard army green.”

The T-90MS, developed by UralVagonZavod, is a modernized export-oriented version of the T-90 series, incorporating improved protection, firepower, and optics compared to earlier models.

Normally, such demonstration units are kept for foreign buyers, which makes this deployment unusual. As Defence Blog noted, the move highlights the demand for combat-ready tanks at a time of sustained battlefield losses.

Independent OSINT groups have reported heavy Russian losses in armored vehicles on the Pokrovsk front over the past six months. According to analysts cited by Defence Blog, visual confirmations show at least 100 destroyed tanks and more than 200 armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles in that sector alone.

Earlier, Ukrainian military intelligence reported that Russia plans to produce 2,500 missiles, nearly 250 new T-90M tanks, 1,100 armored vehicles, 57 fighter jets, and over 360 artillery systems by the end of 2025, signaling preparations not only for the war in Ukraine but also for a potential confrontation with NATO.
