Russia has reportedly shown interest in purchasing Boeing aircraft using its frozen sovereign assets, as part of broader discussions with the United States that could follow a ceasefire in Ukraine.

According to Bloomberg on April 16, which cited a source familiar with the matter in Moscow, this request is not a condition for Russia’s agreement to a potential ceasefire. However, the source noted that Russia understands such a transaction would not be possible without a halt in hostilities.

The idea of allowing aircraft purchases may become part of a larger conversation about easing certain sanctions if a ceasefire is reached, the report suggests.

Responding to the report, National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes said: “The US will not discuss any economic arrangements until a ceasefire has been achieved.”

Following the report, Boeing’s shares saw a dip, Bloomberg noted.

After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Boeing suspended all operations in the country, including the closure of a major engineering center.

Previously, it was reported that Russia has requested the United States to unblock $500 million worth of aircraft parts that were purchased by Moscow.
