Russia has suffered significantly higher battlefield losses than Ukraine in recent months, with casualty figures reportedly running at roughly four times those of Ukrainian forces, Finland’s President Alexander Stubb said, according to the Clash Report on April 27.

Stubb said that over the past four months, Ukrainian forces have inflicted heavy losses on Russian troops, largely through the use of drone warfare.

“How much better is Ukraine today compared to a year ago? In the past four months—and sorry for being morbid—Ukraine has killed or wounded between 30 to 35,000 Russian soldiers per month,” he said.

He added that the casualty ratio currently stands at approximately one Ukrainian killed for every five Russian soldiers, underscoring what he described as the growing effectiveness of Ukraine’s battlefield tactics.

According to Stubb, drones have played a central role in shaping these outcomes, reflecting a broader shift in how the war is being fought and how losses are inflicted.

Ukraine’s major goal for 2026 is to drive Russia’s losses up to 50,000 troops per month. This is not just a striking number, but a concrete calculation: Moscow is keeping the inflow of recruits at 30,000 to 40,000 troops per month.

A steadily deteriorating replenishment curve would eventually leave Russia without enough troops to sustain such a vast front line—more than 1,000 kilometers.

For Ukraine, this is a way to force a ceasefire and bring Moscow to the table to begin negotiations—something Kyiv says it is always ready for.

Russian losses are highlighted daily in the Ukrainian General Staff reports.

In addition, previously, Russian forces attempted to break through Ukrainian positions in the Sumy region by moving through a gas pipeline near the village of Yablunivka, while simultaneously launching a diversionary assault using motorcycles.

The maneuver was detected in time and disrupted through coordinated action with adjacent units.

The attempted infiltration ended with significant losses for Russian forces. Ukrainian troops reported 35 killed and 17 wounded, along with the destruction of three motorcycles and four all-terrain vehicles used in the assault.
