Russia Summons French Ambassador After Detention of Russian Official at Charles de Gaulle

Russia’s Foreign Ministry summoned the French ambassador on April 9, following the detention of an employee of the Russian Foreign Ministry at Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport.
The Russian official was held by French border police on April 6, with authorities confiscating her computer and phone according to Russian media outlet RBC News.
After spending 24 hours in the airport’s border zone, she was eventually allowed entry into France.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, condemned the incident as a “shameful spectacle” and warned of potential consequences.
“As a result of the demarches undertaken, our colleague was ultimately allowed to enter the country, but she had to spend a day in the airport border zone. We do not intend to leave this without consequences,” Zakharova said.
French authorities have yet to explain the detention. The incident has strained diplomatic relations between the two countries, highlighting ongoing tensions amid the broader geopolitical context.
