Russia Suspected in DHL Cargo Plane Crash in Lithuania, Says Bundeswehr General
Russia may be behind the crash of a DHL cargo plane in Lithuania, according to Bundeswehr Inspector General of the Bundeswehr Carsten Breuer, who made the statement during a broadcast on ARD.
The General believes the crash may have been a "test" by Russia to identify vulnerabilities.
"We experienced a similar situation this summer, and what happened now fits into that pattern," said Breuer, as reported by DW.
According to Breuer, Vladimir Putin has "created a hybrid situation."
"It’s a state that is neither entirely peace nor entirely war. It’s designed to test how far boundaries can be pushed," Breuer added.
On the morning of November 25, a DHL cargo plane en route from Leipzig crashed on the way to landing near a residential building in Vilnius. The crash resulted in one fatality. Lithuanian authorities have launched an investigation, with German experts also participating in the probe.
Previously in October, Germany’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser raised concerns over the growing threat posed by Russian sabotage activities in the country, noting that Germany is witnessing an increasingly aggressive stance from the Russian government.
Additionally, Ken McCallum, the Director General of the Security Service (MI5), has warned of threats emanating from Russia's GRU . He stated that Russia seeks to generate “sustained mayhem” on British and European streets by resorting to sabotage, arson and other dangerous actions.
