Russia Targets Dnipro with Grom-1 Rocket-Assisted Guided Bomb for the First Time

Ukrainian air defense units intercepted and destroyed a Grom-1 rocket-assisted guided aviation bomb—a first-ever use of this experimental munition against Dnipro, after it was initially misidentified as a standard guided aviation bomb, confirmed Serhii Lysak, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, on his official Telegram channel on June 28.
Russian tactical aviation launched the munition from occupied Zaporizhzhia region around 11:30 a.m., with radar tracking it over 100 km before it was neutralized on the city’s outskirts.
Defense analysts note Moscow has been fitting rocket boosters to guided aviation bombs to extend their range from about 70 km to nearly 100 km, though these modifications remain experimental and not yet mass-produced.
Ukraine’s Air Force stated that the exact classification of the aerial target — bomb or missile — will be determined after analysing debris recovered at the crash site.
Earlier, Russian attack drones struck central Dnipro, injuring three civilians and damaging more than ten high-rise apartment buildings, multiple businesses and an educational institution in a densely populated neighborhood.
