Russia Targets Evacuation Vehicle in Pokrovsk, Killing One and Injuring Three
A Russian Molniya-type drone struck an evacuation vehicle carrying wounded civilians on the outskirts of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region, killing one passenger and wounding three others, the Ukraine’s National Police reported on July 1.
The evacuation was conducted by police members of the White Angel unit in cooperation with the Chaplains’ Patrol unit, using chaplains’ transport. According to the National Police, Russian forces targeted the rescuers three times—on the approach to the city, within the city centre, and during the evacuation itself.
“At that moment, Russian forces struck our vehicle with a Molniya drone. The car sustained multiple hits and could not continue. Our colleague was wounded, and there was a civilian at death’s door. We called for help and sent the wounded away, hoping for a miracle. But it did not come; Russia claimed another life,” said Henadii Yudin, head of the White Angel rescue unit.
Volunteers evacuated the wounded in the first phase, and members of White Angel were then picked up by patrol police. Officer Kostiantyn Tunitsky sustained a shrapnel wound to his leg and is now in stable condition.
According to police data, approximately 1,700 residents remain in Pokrovsk. “Every day, police officers and volunteers risk their lives to help civilians under fire,” said police spokesperson Taras Barabash.
Earlier, Ukrainian military intelligence drones breached Russian air defenses to strike the 1060th Red Banner Center for Material and Technical Support in Bryansk, damaging artillery repair workshops, destroying ammunition storage, and sparking a large warehouse fire despite Russian claims that their air defenses intercepted or shot down 11 of the attacking UAVs.
