Russia to Build Nuclear Power Plant in Myanmar as Hlaing Hails Putin as “King”

Russia will build a small-scale nuclear power plant in Myanmar to provide the country’s economy with “affordable and environmentally safe” energy, Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced.
This was reported on March 5 by Russian state-owned news agency RIA Novosti.
“The newly signed intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a small-scale nuclear power plant paves the way for providing Myanmar’s economy with affordable and environmentally safe energy,” Putin stated following Russian-Myanmar negotiations.
Putin added that the project will serve as “a strong driver for economic growth, creating thousands of new jobs and fostering the development of highly skilled professionals.”

This follows General Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to Moscow on March 4 where he met Putin, seeking to develop cooperation between Myanmar and Russia.
During the visit, the Myanmar leader referred to Putin as a “king” and expressed support for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“As far as I know, you have been leading Russia not for five or 10 years, but for quite a long time. You are no longer just the leader of the country, but one could say that you are the king of this country,” Hlaing told Putin. “I believe that victory must be yours under your strong and decisive leadership.”
March 4 reports suggest that Russia has agreed to assist U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program and its support for regional anti-American groups.
